The field for Saturday’s $175,000 Group 2 Bede Murray Magic Night Stakes (1200m) is down to 15 fillies after the early scratching of Sugarparma (12), and favourite in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au is the returning Prompt Return.

Jumping from barrier one with Kerrin McEvoy booked for the ride from the inside alley, Waterhouse’s daughter of Beneteau has had just the one run to date when second to Concealer in the Group 3 Ottawa Stakes (1000m) at Flemington last November.

She was a three length winner of a recent Randwick trail last month however and sits top of the Magic Night Stakes odds for Saturday paying $3 to kick off her campaign with a win.

She is followed closely in Magic Night Stakes betting this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival by Calliope ($3.60) drawn one on the favourite’s outside in gate two.

James McDonald jumps back on the John O’Shea-trained Exceed And Excel filly who has won one of her two starts to date.

McDonald rode her for a successful debut at Randwick in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) during the spring before Steven Arnold was aboard first-up in Caulfield’s Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1200m) when Calliope crossed fifth to Samara Dancer.

Despite the size of the Magic Night Stakes field and markets just one other filly is at single figures for the win with Omei Sword at $7.

The Chris Waller-trained daughter of High Chaparral is in barrier four with Brenton Avdulla booked for the ride on the filly who won over 1100m at the track on debut late last month.

There is a host of other longer priced hopes in the mix after an upset Magic Night Stakes result including Twist Tops ($14), the unraced Larapineta ($15) and Palomino ($16) drawn wide in gate 13.

Newcastle’s Kris Lees saddles-up Twist Tops, another daughter of Beneteau, who has had five runs so far including the Inglis Classic win at the start of February over 1200m.

Her latest start was a brave fourth beaten three lengths by the winner Scarlet Rain in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Randwick a fortnight ago ahead of Twist Tops’ first run at Rosehill.

Larapineta may be untested under race conditions, but the Team Hawkes-trained filly has twilled twice including a third over 900m at Rosehill on February 29.

She jumps from gate eight with Tommy Berry aboard this weekend and is a nicely-bred daughter of Sepoy 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes – Golden Slipper double winner Sepoy.

Palomino meanwhile has the wide gate and is looking for a maiden win at her third start following her last start sixth in the Sweet Embrace Stakes.
